A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Deputy William "Willie" Amos Cammon; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Deputy William "Willie" Amos Cammon who was lost in the line
of duty; and
WHEREAS,
Deputy Cammon was born on February 25, 1952, a beloved son of the late John C.
Cammon and Willie Maude Cammon; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Mary Johnson High School in Heard County, Deputy Cammon was highly
regarded as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound
principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
he began his distinguished career in law enforcement in 1976 with the Franklin
City Police and went on to serve with the Georgia State Patrol, Conyers Police
Department, Rockdale County Sheriff Department, Morehouse College Campus Police
Department, Clayton County Sheriff Department, and the Heard County Sheriff
Department/City of Ephesus; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Deputy Cammon was an active member of Mt.
Carrie Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin; and
WHEREAS,
Deputy Cammon leaves behind many who will cherish his memory, including his
children, Antonio and Reywa Cammon; his grandchildren, Tristan Antonio and Bryce
Alexander; and his siblings, Tommy Cammon, Reverend Joseph Cammon, Jessie
Strickland, Willie Eris Woodruff, Shelia Hudson, Ieva Thorton, Patricia Huguley,
Janice Cameron, and Ruby James; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
this career law enforcement officer exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty,
outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all
his duties, and he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and
associates with his unyielding service to this state; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Deputy Cammon will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, grandfather, brother,
nephew, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Deputy William "Willie" Amos
Cammon and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his
passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Deputy William "Willie" Amos Cammon.
