A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Code Section 12-3-50.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to grants for preservation of "historic properties" and additional powers and duties of the Department of Natural Resources, so as to create the African American Cultural Preservation Office; to provide for powers and duties of the office; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Code Section 12-3-50.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to grants for preservation of "historic properties" and additional powers and duties of the Department of Natural Resources, is amended by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(d) The African American Cultural Preservation Office shall be established and maintained within the Division of Historic Preservation. The office shall have the following powers and duties:
(1) To increase awareness of, and encourage public interest in, the contributions of African Americans to the cultural heritage of this state;
(2) To cooperate with agencies of the federal government, other agencies of the state and political subdivisions thereof, and private organizations and individuals to identify and preserve properties in this state associated with African American cultural heritage;
(3) To develop and propose programs and activities to protect, preserve, and encourage the preservation of properties in this state associated with African American cultural heritage; and
(4) To provide public information and education, technical assistance, and training relating to the preservation of African American cultural heritage."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
