HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 104

PROCLAIMING THE DAY OF MARCH 28 AS “WE THE VETERANS” DAY.

WHEREAS, “We the Veterans” day will honor approximately 70,000 veterans in Delaware recognizing their unwavering commitment and service to our country and state; and

WHEREAS, “We the Veterans” day will recognize the physical and mental strength required to undergo intense, ongoing training and discipline; and

WHEREAS, Veterans have demonstrated exceptional courage and resilience, confronting the demanding challenges in military life, and sacrificing their own comfort and safety in the defense of our nation and our state; and

WHEREAS, “We the Veterans” day will commemorate the dedication and sacrifices made by veterans and their families in service to our nation; and

WHEREAS, standing with each Veteran is a supportive family, enduring hardships and separations to uphold the values of duty, honor, service, and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, “We the Veterans” day will serve as a platform to address the unique needs and challenges facing Delaware’s veteran community; and

WHEREAS, the national suicide rate for Veterans is shockingly 17-22 individuals per day, identifying the dire need and responsibility to raise awareness and increase access to long term sustained mental health services; and

WHEREAS, from healthcare and homelessness to employment opportunities and support for the Delaware Veterans Home and Home of the Brave, Veterans often face obstacles in transitioning back to civilian life, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the support and resources they earned by their service; and

WHEREAS, “We the Veterans” day will provide an opportunity for Veterans voices to be heard, conversations held, and issues discussed to raise awareness between Veterans and legislators.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that March 28 th is proclaimed as “We the Veterans” day.

SYNOPSIS

Through this resolution, we recognize the service and sacrifices Veterans have made for the safety of our nation and reaffirm our commitment to supporting and advocating for the needs of our Veteran community, ensuring that they receive the recognition, respect, care, and benefits they rightfully earned.
