FISCAL NOTE

House Bill 8 as introduced would increase the obligations of the general funds of any county or municipal governing body that elects to move a monument from public property in their jurisdiction to pay all costs associated with the removal, relocation, and transfer of ownership to the Department of Archives and/or the History or the Alabama Historical Commission of the monuments. Also, this bill would increase the obligations of the Alabama Historical Commission and/or the Department of Archives and History by an undetermined amount to maintain and display any such transferred monument.

Further, this bill repeals the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act of 2017, including the Committee on Alabama Monument Protection and the provision authorizing the Attorney General to levy fines for violation of the act.
