Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 47-219/00-021.87 (47A060), (39.15277, -79.49617), locally known as Thomas Bridge, carrying U.S. Route 219 over North Fork Blackwater River in Tucker County, the "U. S. Army SGT Vincent DiBacco Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, Vincent DiBacco was a graduate of Thomas High School. He attended St. Charles Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland for two years, studying to become a priest, when in 1942 he made himself available for the draft. On June 6, 1944, he served in the Normandy Invasion with the 61st Medical Battalion. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. He ended his military career as a Sergeant in the Army ; and
Whereas, Sergeant Vincent DiBacco was 98 years old at the time of his death on October 7, 2019; and
Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U.S. Army Sergeant Vincent DiBacco and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 47-219/00-021.87 (47A060), (39.15277, -79.49617), locally known as Thomas Bridge, carrying U.S. Route 219 over North Fork Blackwater River in Tucker County, the "U. S. Army SGT Vincent DiBacco Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army SGT Vincent DiBacco Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
