A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new article, designated §9A-5-1, relating to granting Purple Heart recipients, their spouses or unmarried widows, children and grandchildren a 100 percent tuition waiver to attend any West Virginia state college, university, community and technical college, education institution, vocational school and approved apprenticeship program; and providing that the waiver funds may be used for other expenses if certain conditions are met.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 5. Purple Heart Tuition waivers.


§9A-5-1. Tuition waivers for Purple Heart recipients and their families.

Purple Heart recipients, their spouses or unmarried widows, children and grandchildren shall receive a 100 percent tuition waiver to attend any West Virginia state college, university, community and technical college, education institution, vocational school and approved apprenticeship program. If the individual receives any additional grants, funds or waivers from those institutions or programs, the federal government, or state provides, and the waiver funds may be used to cover any additional administrative fees associated with attending those institutions or programs, including housing, books, parking and fees of any type.


 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to grant Purple Heart recipients, their spouses or unmarried widows, children and grandchildren a 100 percent tuition waiver to attend any West Virginia state college, university, community and technical college, education institution, vocational school and approved apprenticeship program. The bill provides that the waiver funds may be used for other expenses if certain conditions are met.
