A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-41, relating to specifying the grade point average required for student participation in interscholastic athletics at the high school level.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.


§18-2-41. Grade point average required for student participation in interscholastic athletics at the high school level.

The State Board of Education may not impose by rule or other method a different grade point average for student participation in interscholastic athletics at the high school level than the grade point average provided in this section.

Notwithstanding 126 CSR 26-3, a student with a 2.0 grade point average in the core curriculum classes of math, science, social studies, and English, plus if applicable, the student's required Career and Technical Education classes in their chosen major, may participate at the high school level if otherwise eligible to participate.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to statutorily provide the grade point average required for student participation in interscholastic athletics at the high school level.
