Commending Lonnie E. Craig.

WHEREAS, Lonnie E. Craig has ably served and represented the residents of Chesapeake as a member of the Chesapeake City Council since 2010; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Craig holds a bachelor's degree in criminology and master's degree in public administration, and he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Craig previously served and protected the citizens of Virginia as chief of the Virginia Port Authority Police Department and chief of the Virginia Division of Capitol Police; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Lonnie Craig ran for and was elected to the Chesapeake City Council in 2010 and was subsequently reelected to a second term in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Craig has chaired several important commissions and served as the city's liaison to the Volunteer Advocates for Chesapeake Youth, Chesapeake Hospital Authority, Chesapeake Public Utilities, Chesapeake Social Services, and Chesapeake Human Services; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Chesapeake City Council, Lonnie Craig relished opportunities to build strong, personal relationships with members of the community and held daily meeting sessions for citizens to make their voices heard or gather information on local issues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Lonnie E. Craig hereby be commended for his eight years of service as a member of the Chesapeake City Council; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lonnie E. Craig as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his contributions to the Chesapeake community.
