WHEREAS, for 25 years, the Richmond Triangle Players, a nonprofit community theater troupe, has enlightened, entertained, and educated Richmond residents through performances of original and alternative dramatic works; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1993 by three friends who were seeking a way to raise money for AIDS research, Richmond Triangle Players performs theatrical works that explore contemporary lifestyles, equality, gender spectrums, and cultural acceptance and regularly presents works by and for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community; and
WHEREAS, Richmond Triangle Players has grown into a top-quality theater that supports local actors and businesses while earning national acclaim for its high-quality work and reputation for excellence; its audience members come from a wide range of backgrounds and enjoy the emphasis on diversity and tolerance in the company's productions; and
WHEREAS, Richmond Triangle Players was previously located at Fieldens Cabaret Theatre on Broad Street and moved to its current location in 2010, the 4,000-square-foot building on Altamont Avenue, which hosts touring productions outside of the theater season; and
WHEREAS, Richmond Triangle Players was recognized by Equality Virginia with a 2018 OUTstanding Virginians award for its work to promote diversity and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, Richmond Triangle Players has also represented Richmond and the Commonwealth at the biennial Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival and won multiple awards for its productions; and
WHEREAS, through its efforts over the years to provide an open, welcome, and cooperative atmosphere to the entertainment community and the community at large, Richmond Triangle Players has gained the respect and admiration of its peers in the theatrical community and the expanding support of the Richmond community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Richmond Triangle Players hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Richmond Triangle Players as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for its unique contributions to cultural life in Richmond.
