SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 502
Celebrating the life of Lieutenant Commander James Brice Johnson, USN.

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Commander James Brice Johnson, USN, a distinguished naval aviator in Virginia Beach, died on March 14, 2018; and

WHEREAS, born in Mississippi, James Brice Johnson was the son of two United States Air Force officers and lived in New Mexico, Virginia, Kansas, Arizona, Alabama, and Texas, as well as Iceland; and

WHEREAS, Brice Johnson graduated from the United States Air Force Academy along with his future wife, Mary Asher, in 2007; he was then commissioned as an ensign in the United States Navy and completed his primary flight training and weapons systems officer training in Florida; and

WHEREAS, assigned to VFA-22 "Fighting Redcocks" as an F/A-18F Super Hornet weapons systems officer, Brice Johnson completed two combat deployments aboard the USS Carl Vinson; and

WHEREAS, after completing pilot training for the F/A-18F, Brice Johnson was assigned to VFA-213 "Blacklions" at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach and completed a third combat tour aboard the USS George H. W. Bush in support of Operation Inherent Resolve; and

WHEREAS, a standout member of VFA-213, Brice Johnson was awarded the Air Medal for his meritorious service and had recently achieved qualification as a combat section lead; and

WHEREAS, Brice Johnson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Mary Asher; his parents, Wade and Kathy; his sister, Kallyn; and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow aviators; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lieutenant Commander James Brice Johnson, USN; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Commander James Brice Johnson, USN, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
