WHEREAS, James Curtis Gillespie, an esteemed public servant, honorable veteran, and beloved member of the Bluefield community, died on November 19, 2023; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie served his country with honor and valor as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie worked for many years at what was formerly known as Pemco Corporation in Bluefield, helping the company design, engineer, and manufacture state-of-the-art electrical and power distribution equipment; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie proudly served his constituents as a member of the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, working tirelessly to ensure the best for Tazewell County and its residents; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie gave generously of his time to the community through his involvement with the Clinch Valley Community Action board and the Tazewell County Airport Authority; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie found camaraderie and friendship among his fellow veterans at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9696 in Bluefield and at the American Legion post in Pocahontas; and
WHEREAS, James Gillespie discovered a deep passion for flying and for more than 30 years would take to the skies as a private pilot; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie Jean, James Gillespie will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his children, Debbie and David, and their families; and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Curtis Gillespie, a treasured member of the Bluefield community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Curtis Gillespie as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
