SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 178
Commending Janet and Vade Bolton.

WHEREAS, Janet and Vade Bolton were honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2012 Best of Reston Award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Vade Bolton, who passed away in December of 2011, had spent more than three decades in service to the community in a variety of roles; and

WHEREAS, as a member and chair of the board of directors of Reston Interfaith, Vade Bolton provided strong leadership to the organization as it expanded its services to better meet the needs of local residents; and

WHEREAS, Vade Bolton also volunteered at the front desk at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, greeting newcomers and providing friendship, a listening ear, and practical assistance; and

WHEREAS, a respected leader in the community, Janet Bolton provides thoughtful guidance to the nonprofit thrift store, The Closet, as a member of its community board; and

WHEREAS, mindful of the needs of all residents of the area, Janet Bolton organizes and volunteers for programs run by FACETS and Reston Interfaith that address hypothermia among the homeless population; and

WHEREAS, Janet Bolton has taken great pride in encouraging participants in the Reston Sprint Triathlon as a bike captain; and

WHEREAS, Janet and Vade Bolton tirelessly served homeless individuals in the area, often welcoming them into their home for a meal and working with Congregation Beth Emeth to fund dental work for them; and

WHEREAS, Janet and Vade Bolton contributed to the Fairfax County Penny for Affordable Housing Fund and the Fairfax-Falls Church Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness by 2018; and

WHEREAS, true partners in all their endeavors, Janet and Vade Bolton could be frequently seen in the community delivering large donations in their pick-up truck fondly known as the "Good Deeds Mobile"; and

WHEREAS, Janet and Vade Bolton set an outstanding example of community involvement for their fellow residents and enriched the lives of countless individuals through their selfless service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Janet and Vade Bolton as 2012 Best of Reston Award recipients; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Janet Bolton as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her and her late husband's tireless dedication to Reston.
