SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 173 Commending Nancy Collins.

Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2024 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 7, 2024

WHEREAS, Nancy Collins, an esteemed math specialist at Hugh Mercer Elementary School, was named the Fredericksburg City Public Schools Division Teacher of the Year in 2024-2025; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Collins has worked tirelessly to cultivate a learning environment at Hugh Mercer Elementary School in which her students feel both challenged and supported, priming them for success both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, with exceptional attention to detail and preparation, as well as a firm, yet gentle spirit, Nancy Collins carries out her lesson plans and manages her classes with aplomb, maximizing the opportunities for her students' growth and development; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Collins exudes a passion for math and has a talent for explaining complex concepts to her students, connecting with them through innovative and engaging activities that explore real world applications and encourage critical thinking; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Collins supports her colleagues at Hugh Mercer Elementary School in any way she can, developing clubs, remediation plans, and other resources as needed to help both students and teachers achieve their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Collins has exemplified the highest virtues of the education profession through her unwavering commitment to her students and fellow teachers, earning the respect and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Nancy Collins of Hugh Mercer Elementary School for being named the 2024 Fredericksburg City Public Schools Division Teacher of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy Collins as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her devotion to her students and for her contributions to Fredericksburg City Public Schools and the Commonwealth.
