A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 3 of Chapter 11 of Title 8.01 a section numbered 8.01-352.1, relating to juries; fine for failure to respond to questionnaire.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 3 of Chapter 11 of Title 8.01 a section numbered 8.01-352.1 as follows:

§8.01-352.1. Failure of person to respond to request from jury commissioner or clerk.

Any person who fails to respond to a request sent by mail by a jury commissioner or clerk of court containing questions to ascertain such person's eligibility to serve on a jury within 10 days of receipt of such request may be fined not more than $200. Prior to assessing such a fine, the court may issue a rule to show cause regarding why such person failed to respond to the request.
