HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 657

Commending the Albemarle High School boys' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Albemarle High School boys' soccer team capped an undefeated season with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on June 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, during the season, the Albemarle High School Patriots kept a clean sheet in 12 games and dominated their opponents to finish with a 21 - 0 - 1 overall record; and

WHEREAS, in the tense state final, the Deep Run Wildcats conceded an early own goal, and Wesley Cheuk and Nicolas Matavelli scored for the Albemarle Patriots, leaving the game level at 3 -3 after regulation and overtime; and

WHEREAS, having lost the 2017 regional semifinal game in penalty kicks, the Albemarle Patriots were well-prepared for a shootout and scored on all three of their attempts; goalkeeper Thomas Leckrone stood tall in the net during penalty kicks, making three saves to help the team secure its second state title in three seasons; and

WHEREAS, the Albemarle Patriots' successful season is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Albemarle High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Albemarle High School boys' soccer team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Zach Laird, head coach of the Albemarle High School boys' soccer team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future.
