Commending the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia.

WHEREAS, for 30 years, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia has preserved the history and legacy of colonial American pioneers and their descendants; and

WHEREAS, the idea of the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia was created by Eric Montgomery, then director of the Ulster-American Folk Park in Northern Ireland, as a way for people to learn about colonial settlers and their contributions to the American way of life; and

WHEREAS, after a feasibility study by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1982; the museum became an independent state agency in 1986 and opened to the public in 1988; and

WHEREAS, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia provides teacher education programs and opportunities for school field trips, as well as entertaining lectures, workshops, and special programs; and

WHEREAS, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia has fulfilled its mission with the support of countless volunteers and many generous donations, which have supported temporary and permanent exhibits, the acquisition, preservation, and reproduction of historic buildings, and the preservation of artifacts; and

WHEREAS, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia will commemorate its 30th anniversary with a host of special events between September 9, 2018, and September 8, 2019; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia hereby be commended on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the museum's diligent work to preserve the history and heritage of the Commonwealth and the United States.
