Commending Point O'View Elementary School.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, Point O'View Elementary School has provided children in Virginia Beach with a safe, supportive environment in which to learn and grow; and

WHEREAS, established in 1968, Point O'View Elementary School helps young students become good citizens of the Commonwealth and the world by developing the life experiences to think critically and creatively while cultivating a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves and others; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated faculty and staff members of Point O'View Elementary School provide a robust, stimulating curriculum to more than 660 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, using innovative teaching methods to ensure that each student's academic needs are met; and

WHEREAS, Point O'View Elementary School offers many co-curricular programs, including Virginia Beach Reads, after-school tutoring, gifted and talented services, and special education programs, as well as an on-site before- and after-school program administered by the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation; and

WHEREAS, emphasizing strong relationships with parents, families, and the community, Point O'View Elementary School enhances the educational experience through opportunities for volunteering and other unique services that benefit every student; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Point O'View Elementary School hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2018; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Chowns, principal of Point O'View Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's legacy of service to the youths of Virginia Beach.
