WHEREAS, Charlie Clark, a former resident of Purcellville and one of the oldest living World War II veterans, celebrates his 108th birthday in 2015; and WHEREAS, born in 1907 in Hamilton, Charlie Clark joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army; and WHEREAS, Charlie Clark served with the 3238th Quartermaster Service Company, an all-black unit in the 9th Armored Division; and WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Charlie Clark relocated to Purcellville, where he worked in an apple orchard, as a barber, and as a school bus driver; and WHEREAS, in 2014, Charlie Clark moved to the Martinsburg VA Medical Center Community Living Center in West Virginia; he brings joy to his fellow residents with his laid back demeanor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Charlie Clark, a respected veteran in Martinsburg, hereby be commended on the occasion of his 108th birthday; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie Clark as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for his service to the Commonwealth and the United States. |
