HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 552
Commending G. Timothy Oksman.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 17, 2018

WHEREAS, G. Timothy Oksman, a respected attorney with decades of experience in local and state government, retires from the Office of the Attorney General in 2018; and

WHEREAS, a native of New York, G. Timothy "Tim" Oksman holds degrees from Hobart College and New York University and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, after earning his law degree from the University of Virginia, Tim Oksman served as assistant county attorney of Henrico County and practiced law with the firm of Shuford, Rubin, Oksman & Gibney; and

WHEREAS, Tim Oksman subsequently served as the city attorney of Richmond and Portsmouth and as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in the Office of the Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney; he cofounded the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, a professional association for county, city, and town attorneys; and

WHEREAS, since 2014, Tim Oksman has served the Honorable Mark R. Herring as opinions counsel in the Office of the Attorney General, with approximately 200 opinions issued during this period; and

WHEREAS, as opinions counsel, Tim Oksman has been responsible for writing or assigning and editing all official advisory opinions that are recommended to the attorney general, as well as all informal opinions; he has also prepared the Annual Report of the Attorney General; and

WHEREAS, Tim Oksman has also served the Commonwealth as a member of the Executive Committee of the Virginia Code Commission and the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That G. Timothy Oksman hereby be commended for his service to the Commonwealth on the occasion of his retirement from the Office of the Attorney General in 2018; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to G. Timothy Oksman as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of contributions to local and state government in Virginia.
