WHEREAS, Riverside High School, a state-of-the-art public school in Loudoun County, begins its inaugural school year on August 31, 2015; and WHEREAS, built on a 46-acre site near the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Riverside High School was designed to emulate the aesthetics of a college campus; and WHEREAS, a creek runs between the parking lot and the entrance to Riverside High School, pathways connect to the National Conference Center's existing trail network, and lush forests and rolling hills provide a backdrop to create a welcoming atmosphere; and WHEREAS, Riverside High School's student body will comprise of 340 freshmen, 300 sophomores, and 140 juniors from the Tuscarora, Stone Bridge, and Broad Run communities; students voted on the school's mascot, a ram, and school's colors, royal blue, silver, and red; and WHEREAS, opening with 55 teachers and 45 support staff, Riverside High School will offer a complete curriculum with opportunities for athletics and extracurricular activities; and WHEREAS, parents and teachers formed a Parent Teacher Student Organization and hosted fundraisers to support a grand opening gala event, which will be held on August 29, 2015, at the National Conference Center; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Riverside High School hereby be commended on the occasion of its grand opening; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Anderson, principal of Riverside High School, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and best wishes for a successful inaugural school year. |
