HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 507
Commending the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 11, 2018

 

WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team claimed the second basketball state title in school history with a win in the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship on March 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School Red Devils finished the regular season with a 15 - 5 record; and

WHEREAS, in the state final, the Lancaster Red Devils defeated the Eastside High School Spartans 52 - 49 before a large crowd of Lancaster fans who had made the trip to the Siegel Center in Richmond to support their team; and

WHEREAS, the Lancaster Red Devils adapted to the taller Eastside Spartans and forced multiple turnovers to break a 44 - 44 tie and take the lead with 4:46 to go in the fourth quarter; and

WHEREAS, the year 2018 marked the sixth trip to the state tournament for Lancaster Red Devils' head coach Tim Rice, who led the team to its first state championship victory in 2012 and has achieved an incredible 199 - 65 overall record as a coach in his 11-year career; and

WHEREAS, the Lancaster Red Devils' successful season is a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and dedication of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Lancaster community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim Rice, head coach of the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future.
