HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4045
Commending George Mason University's Arlington Campus.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, July 9, 2019

 

WHEREAS, George Mason University's Arlington Campus will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2019; and

WHEREAS, the George Mason University Foundation acquired 11 acres of land and a single building on November 28, 1978, which became the School of Law and was known as Arlington Original; and

WHEREAS, George Mason University School of Law officially opened on July 1, 1979; and

WHEREAS, currently, the Arlington Campus hosts the Antonin Scalia Law School, the Schar School of Policy and Government, the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, the School of Business, the College of Visual and Preforming Arts' Arts Management Program, continuing education professional education programs, and more than twenty-five Centers of Research including the Mercatus Center, the Law and Economics Center, the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution, the Center for Regional Analysis, and the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science; and

WHEREAS, the Arlington Campus currently serves roughly 2,600 students; and

WHEREAS, George Mason University has constructed three additional buildings on the Arlington Campus totaling over 500,000 square feet of academic, research, and office space; and

WHEREAS, a soon-to-be expanded and renovated Arlington Campus will be the new home of George Mason University's Institute for Digital InnovAtion and School of Computing to meet the technology and data sciences' need for the ever-expanding computer science industry in Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That George Mason University's Arlington Campus hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary so that the Board of Visitors, advisory committees, interested citizens, and local governments may plan for appropriate celebrations in 2019 and 2020; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the president of George Mason University as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for their extraordinary efforts to promote educational access and excellence in Arlington.
