Celebrating the life of Edward S. Garcia, Sr.

WHEREAS, Edward S. Garcia, Sr., an entrepreneur and a respected community leader who touched countless lives throughout Hampton Roads, died on May 30, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Edward "Eddie" Garcia learned the value of hard work and responsibility as a child of the Great Depression and worked various jobs to help support his family as a youth; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 17, Eddie Garcia joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to the nation during World War II as a member of the United States Navy, where he studied to become a master electrician; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Eddie Garcia established his first companies, ES Garcia Electric and Volt Electric, and subsequently learned the real estate business as his electrical companies grew and thrived; and

WHEREAS, as a real estate developer, Eddie Garcia had a significant impact on the Virginia Beach community, developing thousands of homes in the Sandbridge area, in addition to large-scale projects like the Princess Anne Plaza Shopping Center, the Ocean Breeze Waterpark, and the Pavilion Tower Hotel and Conference Center; and

WHEREAS, as a philanthropist, Eddie Garcia contributed to many worthy causes, while also offering his leadership, wisdom, and expertise; he supported the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Operation Smile, Seton Youth Shelters, and the Tidewater Veterans Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Garcia will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sandra; his children, Edward, Jr., Carmen, Ricky, Ramona, Angela, Rosa, and Ana, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Edward S. Garcia, Sr., a respected businessman in Hampton Roads; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edward S. Garcia, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
