Commending Warrenton Church of Christ.

WHEREAS, in 2019, Warrenton Church of Christ celebrated the 50th anniversary of the construction of its first building; and

WHEREAS, Warrenton Church of Christ was established on January 23, 1966, with Tom Seals as its first minister; and

WHEREAS, the small congregation of Warrenton Church of Christ met in office spaces at the Peoples National Bank of Warrenton in the Northern Virginia Shopping Center; and

WHEREAS, Warrenton Church of Christ soon outgrew that space and moved across the parking lot into a vacant shoe store; and

WHEREAS, within a year, Warrenton Church of Christ also outgrew the store and needed a building of its own to best serve the congregation; and

WHEREAS, Ralph and Lois Moore donated land in Warrenton Lakes for the Warrenton Church of Christ building, and bonds were sold to obtain funding for its construction; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, the new building was opened for use by the Warrenton Church of Christ congregation; worship services and Bible study were originally held in classrooms on the upper floor while the main auditorium was being completed; and

WHEREAS, the Warrenton Church of Christ building was dedicated on March 15, 1970, and has served as a refuge for the community of Fauquier County for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, the Koonce family, members of Warrenton Church of Christ, started a mission program in Rwanda in 1997 to help rebuild and strengthen the region after the Rwandan Civil War and genocide; and

WHEREAS, Warrenton Church of Christ is currently led by elders Bob Hoagland, Bill Powell, and Eddie Pérez; pulpit minister Bob Kolodner; and children's ministry coordinator Rebecca Lotane; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Warrenton Church of Christ hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Warrenton Church of Christ as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its service to the residents of Fauquier County.
