WHEREAS, after 30 years of service to the residents of Augusta County and the Commonwealth, Carol M. Brydge retired as Clerk of the Augusta Circuit Court on April 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Carol Brydge joined the Augusta Circuit Court as a Deputy Clerk in 1989 and was promoted to Chief Deputy Clerk in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Carol Brydge was appointed as Clerk of the Augusta Circuit Court in December 2014 and formally elected in March of the following year, becoming the first female Clerk of Circuit Court in Augusta County history; and

WHEREAS, Carol Brydge worked to ensure that her staff had the tools to succeed and implemented new programs and processes to better serve the residents of Augusta County, such as the establishment of a Clerk's Office website, the use of credit cards, e-filing, and e-recording; and

WHEREAS, in 2016, Carol Brydge received Certified Court Manager and Master Circuit Court Clerk designations from the National Center for State Courts; she also enrolled members of her full-time staff in similar programs, resulting in seven deputy clerks achieving this designation; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Virginia Court Clerks' Association, Carol Brydge also offered her expertise to her fellow clerks on the Association's Executive, Legislative, Convention, and Workload and Staffing Committees; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Carol M. Brydge hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as Clerk of the Augusta County Circuit Court; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carol M. Brydge as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her decades of service and best wishes for a happy retirement.
