WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry High School girls' track and field team won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship on June 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry High School Rebels finished with a score of 114, defeating the defending champion Auburn High School Eagles by 12 points to claim their first team state title in more than two decades; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry Rebels' victory was a complete team effort, with exceptional performances in distance running, sprinting, pole vault, throwing, and hurdling; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Henry's Maggie Buchanan set a record in the 400-meter race with her first-place finish of 57.43; she also won the 200-meter race and the 4x100 relay, along with Sarah Cornett, Ella Maiden, and Julia Street; and

WHEREAS, Ella Maiden participated in seven events, placing second in the 110-meter hurdles and setting a record in the pole vault; she also placed in the top four of the high jump event with Sarah Cornett; and

WHEREAS, other standouts for the Patrick Henry Rebels included Abigail Belcher and Casey Quillen in the discus event, and Catherine Grossman in the 3200-meter race; and

WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry Rebels' win is a testament to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the support of the entire Patrick Henry High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Patrick Henry High School girls' track and field team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship in 2019; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Love and Sarah Helton, head coaches of the Patrick Henry High School girls' track and field team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future.
