WHEREAS, Betty Jones Bridgers Cullen, an esteemed educator and beloved member of the Fairfax community, died on June 8, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Betty Cullen earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she embarked upon many adventures as a member of the Outing Club; and
WHEREAS, after graduation, Betty Cullen served as an educator at Princess Anne Elementary School in Virginia Beach, working tirelessly to foster the academic, social, and emotional well-being of her students; and
WHEREAS, Betty Cullen later settled in Annapolis, Maryland, and earned a master's degree in education with a focus on elementary school counseling from the University of Maryland; her commitment to teaching would lead her to continue garnering credits throughout her life at the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Old Dominion University; and
WHEREAS, Betty Cullen ultimately made her home in Fairfax and concluded her teaching career at Churchill Road Elementary School, where her passion and dedication contributed greatly to her students' success both in and out of the classroom; and
WHEREAS, above all else, Betty Cullen was devoted to raising and caring for her daughter, Leigh, instilling in her innumerable life lessons and encouraging her in all her endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Betty Cullen will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving husband, James; her daughter, Leigh; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Betty Jones Bridgers Cullen, a cherished member of the Fairfax community whose kind and generous spirit touched countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Betty Jones Bridgers Cullen as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
