WHEREAS, for 50 years, the nonprofit organization The Women's Center has supported the Northern Virginia community by providing quality and affordable mental health counseling services and educational resources as well as care and support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Center has expanded its services over the years to assist clients of all genders and ages, while ensuring that individuals seeking care are not denied for lack of insurance or payment; and
WHEREAS, operating out of two locations in the Commonwealth and Washington, D.C., as well as in a number of partner locations, The Women's Center and its staff of more than 65 therapists served over 3,000 clients last year, 60 percent of whom received free or subsidized services; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Center has developed into a teaching institution for mental health professionals and built a reputation for being one of the largest and most prestigious training programs of its kind in the country; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of The Women's Center are the result of the guidance and support of its leadership, the unwavering dedication of its staff and volunteers, and the generosity of its donors; and
WHEREAS, by serving as a safe haven for those in need, The Women's Center has helped to make Northern Virginia a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That The Women's Center of Northern Virginia hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Women's Center as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's history and mission.
