HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 292
Celebrating the life of Cynthia Murphy Elkin.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 26, 2015

WHEREAS, Cynthia Murphy Elkin, who for many years was a valued leader in the Falls Church community, a dear friend and mentor to many people, and a devoted wife and mother, died on February 13, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Cynthia "Cindy" Murphy Elkin, and her husband, James S. Elkin, opened Point of View Eyewear on West Broad Street, and the couple also were important members of the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, after her husband's death, Cindy Elkin helped implement the James S. Elkin Award for Humanitarianism, awarded annually by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce; she also served on the association's board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Cindy Elkin ensured that Point of View Eyewear participated as a business partner of Falls Church City Public Schools, and she served as a member and chair of the Business in Education Partnership Council; she led Point of View Eyewear's work with the school division to ensure that children in need received eye exams and eyeglasses; and

WHEREAS, Cindy Elkin also was a strong supporter and volunteer with the Virginia Hospital Medical Brigade and its medical missions to Honduras; and

WHEREAS, throughout her life, Cindy Elkin had many friends who recall her friendliness, humanity, creativity, and gentleness, and they appreciated the joy and sunshine she brought into the lives of those she held dear; and

WHEREAS, Cindy Elkin, who was predeceased by James, her husband of more than 30 years, and by a daughter, Kathy, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Haley, Valerie, James, and Clyde, and their families; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Cynthia Murphy Elkin, who for many years was a valued leader in the Falls Church community, a dear friend and mentor to many people, and a devoted wife and mother; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Cynthia Murphy Elkin as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
