HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 260
Commending the Korea Times and Korea Daily.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 11, 2016

WHEREAS, the Korea Times and Korea Daily newspapers provide the most up-to-date news and information to the Korean community in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, there are approximately two million Americans of Korean descent living in the United States, making it home to the second-largest Korean population in the world; and

WHEREAS, there are 200,000 Korean-Americans living in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, more than half of whom live in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Republic of Korea is Virginia's 11th-largest trading partner, with the Commonwealth exporting coal and agricultural products and importing electronics and vehicles; and

WHEREAS, Virginia and the Republic of Korea have developed a special relationship, consisting of strong economic, social, and cultural ties, through times of both peace and war; and

WHEREAS, Korean Americans throughout the region and the United States make valuable contributions to their communities through their professional and business associations and membership in service organizations and churches; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Korea Times and the Korea Daily hereby be commended for their work to keep Korean Americans informed and connected to their cultural heritage; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Korea Times and Korea Daily as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the newspapers' service to the Korean American community.
