HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 155
Commending the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 8, 2013

WHEREAS, the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team, of Henrico County, won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state golf tournament in October 2012; and

WHEREAS, with a record of 27 - 1, the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team finished the season at the top of the Colonial District, won the Colonial District tournament, and were the runners-up in the Central Region tournament; and

WHEREAS, in the state championship at Red Wing Lake Golf Course in Virginia Beach, the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team posted a score of 592, defeating eight other schools; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Tom Hoy, the head coach of the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team, the team earned its fifth championship title; Tom Hoy earned his 18th career championship title, counting four previous titles in golf; and

WHEREAS, Mark Lawrence, Jr., was named the 2012 Colonial District Tournament Champion, the Colonial District Player of the Year, the Central Region Tournament Champion, and the Central Region Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, five players on the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team were named to the All-Colonial-District team, two were named to the All-Central-Region team, and two were named to the AAA All-State team; and

WHEREAS, each member of the team—Tyler Bennett, Colton Grow, Brian Hill, Curt Kennedy, Mark Lawrence, Jr., Wes Pike, Jack Hetzer, Scott Merritt, Tyler Nash, Chris Powell, David Qin, Anthony Roberto, and Jacob Stansell—performed admirably throughout the season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team hereby be commended for winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA state golf tournament; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tom Hoy, the head coach of the Mills E. Godwin High School golf team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's skill and determination.
