HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 968
Commending Eden King.

WHEREAS, Eden King, assistant professor of psychology at George Mason University, was honored by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia with a 2011 Rising Star Outstanding Faculty Award; and

WHEREAS, only the best of the Commonwealth's faculty at public and private colleges and universities receive the prestigious Outstanding Faculty Award, which recognizes superior accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Industrial-Organizational Psychology program at George Mason University, Dr. King has gained nationwide attention for her research on stigmatized individuals in the workplace; and

WHEREAS, through her research, Dr. King seeks to build an understanding of the types of difficulties encountered by different populations in the workplace and the strategies that can be used to reduce those difficulties; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King's research efforts, supported by the Sloan Foundation and the American Psychological Association, have been published in numerous psychology journals and featured on "Good Morning America" and the CBS Evening News; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King has received numerous awards and accolades for her groundbreaking research, including recognition from the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King's love of research extends into the classroom, where her contagious enthusiasm has inspired students to pursue their own research; and

WHEREAS, an accomplished educator, Dr. King has contributed to a better understanding of workplace issues while profoundly influencing new generations of researchers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Eden King on her well-deserved 2011 Rising Star Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eden King as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for her contributions to the field of psychology and commitment to higher education in the Commonwealth.
