Celebrating the life of Sherwood Tyrone White.

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White was born on August 5, 1954, in Richmond, and was called from labor to reward on February 6, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White attended Henrico County Public Schools and graduated from Highland Springs High School; he later earned an associate degree in applied sciences at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, where he received National Honor Society recognition, served as president of the Human Services Club and the Student Government Association, and led other organizations; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White continued his education at the University of Virginia, where he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in urban planning; and

WHEREAS, while a student at the University of Virginia, Sherwood Tyrone White was a member of the Black Voices Gospel Choir and a dependable member of the Peer Tutors staff; and

WHEREAS, after the resignation of Leonidas B. Young II on February 1, 1999, Sherwood Tyrone White was appointed to serve an interim term by the Richmond City Council on February 22, 1999, to fill the Seventh District Council seat; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White, affectionately known as "Wood," was an avid supporter of the University of Virginia, including the Cavaliers' football, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's lacrosse and soccer teams, and the debate team; he was also a longtime fan of the Washington Redskins football team; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White was a faithful Christian and devoted to New Bridge Baptist Church, where he was nurtured during his youth and encouraged to hone and share his extraordinary vocal gifts and dynamic oratory skills by participating in the church's and regional speaking and singing programs and services; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Tyrone White was a kind and generous Christian man and his memory and legacy will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who loved and revered him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sherwood Tyrone White; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sherwood Tyrone White as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory and service to the citizens of Richmond.
