HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 904
Celebrating the life of Clarence Harvey Byler.

WHEREAS, Clarence Harvey Byler of Virginia Beach, who developed the city's Larkspur neighborhood and other residential and commercial projects, a proud veteran of the United States military, an active member of several community organizations, and a devoted father and grandfather, died on January 5, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Clarence "Curly" Harvey Byler was born in Burton, Ohio, and was a teenager when his family moved to Princess Anne County, which is now part of the City of Virginia Beach; he came from a humble and hard-working background and proudly served in the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Curly Byler, who became one of the top developers in Virginia Beach, developed the city's Larkspur neighborhood; he named many of the streets after famous golfers because a golf course recently had been built close by, and a main thoroughfare was named in honor of a friend who became his business attorney; and

WHEREAS, giving back to the community was important to Curly Byler; he was a member of the Khedive Temple Lodge; he had served as captain of the motor patrol and was president and a longtime member of the International Association of Shrine Motor Corps; and

WHEREAS, highly regarded by all who knew him, Curly Byler, who remained an avid pilot for almost his entire life, also served the Commonwealth as a member of the Virginia Aviation Board; and

WHEREAS, Curly Byler, who is remembered by many people for his good deeds, will be greatly missed by his children, Kathryn, Gary, and David, and their families, including their mother, Virginia; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Clarence Harvey Byler of Virginia Beach, developer of the city's Larkspur neighborhood and other residential and commercial projects, a proud veteran of the United States military, a member of several community organizations, and a devoted father and grandfather; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Clarence Harvey Byler as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
