HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 875
Commending Mary B. Agee.

WHEREAS, Mary B. Agee, a devoted community leader and a passionate advocate for children and families, retires as the president and chief executive officer of Northern Virginia Family Service on June 30, 2015, after a distinguished 41-year career; and

WHEREAS, Mary Agee earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and joined Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) as a counselor in 1972; respected for her hard work and visionary leadership, she became the deputy director of NVFS in 1978 and the executive director and chief executive officer in 1988; and

WHEREAS, as chief executive officer, Mary Agee set and managed program goals, advised the board of directors, represented NVFS in local and regional activities, oversaw development efforts, and prepared the budget; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mary Agee initiated numerous programs to serve and support Northern Virginians in need; she launched the region's first private foster care program for people with developmental disabilities and created the Community Foundation's Survivors' Fund, which provided assistance to more than 1,000 people after the attacks on September 11, 2001; and

WHEREAS, an active leader, Mary Agee engaged local businesses in community service through training sessions and has personally taken time to recognize the generosity of thousands of local donors and volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Mary Agee helped NVFS grow to become one of the largest, most trusted social services providers in the region; with over 350 dedicated employees and a wide range of innovative programs, NVFS stands poised to continue making a difference in the community for years to come; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Fairfax County, Mary Agee plans to spend her well-earned retirement with her husband, Phil, and her two grown children and their families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mary B. Agee for her 41 years of service to the community on the occasion of her retirement as president and chief executive officer of Northern Virginia Family Service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary B. Agee as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her countless contributions to Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth.
