Commending Taywin Boonjindasap.

WHEREAS, Taywin Boonjindasap, a longtime resident of Northern Virginia, became a citizen of the United States after almost 18 years of education, hard work, and many contributions to the Alexandria community; and

WHEREAS, Taywin "Win" Boonjindasap came to the United States in 2001 as a tourist, fell in love with Virginia, and returned as a student to Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) in 2002; and

WHEREAS, already holding a master's degree in geography from Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand, Win Boonjindasap could not pass up the opportunity to continue his education in the United States; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Win Boonjindasap received an associate's degree in computer science from NVCC; he then worked for a year before matriculating into the computer science program at George Mason University (GMU); and

WHEREAS, in 2007, Win Boonjindasap graduated from GMU with a bachelor's degree and went to work for Express Search, Inc., where he continues to work today as a computer programmer and developer; and

WHEREAS, unfortunately, the nationwide cap on H-1B visas prevented Win Boonjindasap from receiving a work permit the next year, so he went back to GMU for a master's degree in computer science, graduating with honors in 2010; and

WHEREAS, working with his employer sponsor, Win Boonjindasap was finally able to apply for and receive his green card in 2013; and

WHEREAS, after the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, Win Boonjindasap was able to marry his longtime partner, John Grim, in 2014; and

WHEREAS, on December 15, 2018, Win Boonjindasap proudly completed what he considers to be his greatest achievement: taking the Oath of Allegiance at a naturalization ceremony held in Fairfax High School and officially becoming a citizen; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Taywin Boonjindasap on becoming a citizen of the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Taywin Boonjindasap as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the Northern Virginia community.
