WHEREAS, for 55 years, New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant, a second-generation family-owned establishment, has served delicious meals and fostered a strong sense of community in Williamsburg; and
WHEREAS, originally known as College Delly, New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant was founded by James and Kiki Lappas in Williamsburg in 1968 and was a staple of community life at The College of William & Mary for many years; and
WHEREAS, now owned by James and Kiki's son, Bobby, New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant has served patrons under its current name and at its current location in Lightfoot since 1987; a third generation of the Lappas family, Bobby's daughter, has also joined the business; and
WHEREAS, over the years, New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant has welcomed countless residents, college students, alumni, tourists, and other high-profile visitors, becoming a treasured local landmark and beloved community gathering place in the Williamsburg area; and
WHEREAS, New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant has also developed strong partnerships with other local businesses to better serve residents and visitors and further enhance the local economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant on the occasion of its 55th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to New York Deli and Pizza Restaurant as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its contributions to the Williamsburg community.
