HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 579
Commending Bon Secours Virginia Health System.

WHEREAS, Bon Secours Virginia Health System is a mission-driven, not-for-profit Catholic health system whose mission is to provide good help to those in need; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours Virginia Health System is committed to building healthy communities in Richmond and Hampton Roads through seven award-winning hospitals with 12,000 employees and nearly 300 physicians dedicated to excellence in quality health care and outcomes; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours Virginia Health System, in recognizing that one in three children in Virginia are overweight or obese, had the vision to collaborate with community leaders, educators, physicians, nutritionists, and families to address the childhood obesity epidemic through the creation of movin' mania; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours Virginia Health System has engaged health care providers, educators, business and government leaders, and families to reach approximately 100,000 children and their families through movin' mania in the home, at school, and in communities throughout Central Virginia; and

WHEREAS, to alleviate obesity, movin' mania empowers children and families to lead healthier, more productive lives through education, awareness, and a foundation to build healthy habits into their everyday lives; and

WHEREAS, Bon Secours Virginia Health System secured support from numerous community partners across the business, government, media, education, food, exercise, and health care sectors of Virginia to join in an unprecedented effort to address childhood obesity in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Bon Secours Virginia Health System on the successful creation and implementation of movin' mania; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bon Secours Virginia Health System as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for the health system's commitment to building healthy communities throughout Virginia.
