HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 560
Commending Ebonee Sanders.

WHEREAS, Ebonee Sanders, a United States Army veteran from Marshall in Fauquier County, won four gold medals at the 32nd Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games held in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of the United States Army, Ebonee Sanders proudly served her country for a total of seven years, including a tour in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, upon the completion of her military service, Ebonee Sanders began a career in special education, teaching at Liberty High School while pursuing a master's degree and raising her two daughters; and

WHEREAS, in 2007 Ebonee Sanders was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord; and

WHEREAS, while being evaluated at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Ebonee Sanders learned about the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and decided to train for the games; and

WHEREAS, with the same discipline and single-minded purpose she had brought to her other endeavors in life, Ebonee Sanders returned home and, with the support of her husband and daughters, began to practice on a makeshift range; and

WHEREAS, Ebonee Sanders also decided to enter power chair competitions, mastering the use of the power chair and its joystick in just four weeks; and

WHEREAS, at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Richmond, Ebonee Sanders competed against other veterans in a range of events, demonstrating her prowess and skill by capturing gold in the air gun, motorized slalom, power chair 200-meter, and power motor rally; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding role model, Ebonee Sanders' triumphant performance at the 32nd Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games is a testament to her courageous heart and epitomizes the strength of character and dedication that members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces possess; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ebonee Sanders on winning four gold medals at the 32nd Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ebonee Sanders as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on her outstanding performance and admiration for her indomitable spirit.
