WHEREAS, Dorothea McLaughlin, who faithfully served the residents of Pittsylvania County for more than 40 years in the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, retired in 2012; and WHEREAS, after attending Danville Community College, Dorothea McLaughlin began her distinguished career in public service when she joined the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office in 1971; and WHEREAS, a dedicated member of the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, Dorothea McLaughlin gained in-depth knowledge of and experience in the office, particularly in the probation of wills, divorces, adoptions, juvenile appeals, and civil suits; and WHEREAS, known for her friendly and helpful manner, Dorothea McLaughlin assisted countless citizens during the four decades she served in the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office; and WHEREAS, Dorothea McLaughlin was recognized for her experience, professionalism, and knowledge when she was promoted to the position of Chief Deputy Clerk in 1998, a position she held until her retirement; and WHEREAS, Dorothea McLaughlin saw many changes in the operations of the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office over the years, including the use of computers for recordkeeping, but had only two bosses and moved desks only once during her remarkably long tenure; and WHEREAS, Dorothea McLaughin now enjoys a well-deserved retirement and spending time with family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dorothea McLaughlin for her devoted service to the residents of Pittsylvania County on the occasion of her retirement from the Circuit Court Clerk's Office; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dorothea McLaughlin as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for her commitment to public service. |
