Commending Harris Funeral Homes.

WHEREAS, for 68 years, Harris Funeral Homes, a family-owned funeral home business in Southside Virginia, has served local families with the utmost care and respect in their time of need; and

WHEREAS, Harris Funeral Homes traces its roots to 1956, when the late Charles H. Harris and his wife, Loretta, established their first funeral home on Market Street in Clarksville; and

WHEREAS, in 1959, the Harris family relocated the business to a newly constructed facility on Fourth Street, where they served the residents of Mecklenburg County and communities just over the border in North Carolina for 52 years; and

WHEREAS, William Harris, the youngest son of Charles and Loretta Harris, joined the family business in 1990 and has since provided dignified and highly professional service to countless families as they grieve the loss of a loved one; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, William Harris expanded the business to Chase City with the purchase of the former Giles Funeral Home and the creation of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Services; he subsequently oversaw the opening of a new facility in Buffalo Junction after the Fourth Street building was destroyed by fire; and

WHEREAS, Harris Funeral Homes currently serves the counties of Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, and Charlotte in Virginia and the counties of Vance, Granville, and Person in North Carolina from its two locations, Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Chase City and C.H. Harris Funeral Home in Buffalo Junction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Harris Funeral Homes on the occasion of its 68th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Loretta Harris and William Harris, owners of Harris Funeral Homes, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its long legacy of compassionate service to families throughout the region.
