Patrons-- Orrock, Cole, Howell, W.J., Peace and Scott, E.T.; Senators: Reeves and Stuart WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson, a respected business and civic leader from Spotsylvania County, died on March 10, 2013; and WHEREAS, born and raised at his family's home, Wilburn, DuVal Dickinson graduated from James Monroe High School and attended George Washington University, the University of North Carolina, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson returned to Spotsylvania County and joined his father on the family farm; together they developed a nationally recognized herd of Guernsey cattle; and WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson married the love of his life, Anne, and they embarked on a life together raising their three sons and daughter and starting an award-winning family business, Dickinson Equipment, that continues to operate today; and WHEREAS, an admired business and industry leader, DuVal Dickinson provided outstanding service to his customers and strong leadership as president of the Virginia Farm Equipment Dealers Association; and WHEREAS, an active Ruritan member for nearly 70 years, DuVal Dickinson was the charter president of the Chancellor Ruritan Club and generously gave his time and talents to enrich the lives of his fellow residents; and WHEREAS, known for his kind and gracious manner, DuVal Dickinson served on the Tri-County Soil and Water Conservation District Commission, as chair of the Spotsylvania Service Authority, president of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, and chair of the Spotsylvania County Republican Committee; and WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson served on the board of Mary Washington Hospital and as a member of its building committee and hospice support care board; he also delivered nutritious meals to those in need through Meals on Wheels; and WHEREAS, a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, DuVal Dickinson served in numerous capacities over the years, even visiting Tanzania with the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia to provide insight on farming methods; and WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, DuVal Dickinson was honored for his many distinguished contributions to Spotsylvania County when he, along with his wife, Anne, was awarded the Governor Spotswood Award in 2010; and WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Anne; children, Anne-Marie, Clay, Robert, and Harry, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a true Virginia gentleman, R. DuVal Dickinson; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of R. DuVal Dickinson as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
