WHEREAS, Kevin Timothy English, a real estate agent who served two terms on the Dumfries Town Council and was a staunch advocate of securing quality affordable housing for the less fortunate in Prince William County, died on January 15, 2012; and WHEREAS, Kevin English graduated from Gar-Field High School and Virginia Tech and worked as a realtor in the Dumfries area since 1985; he was an active and generous community volunteer and a longtime member of the Prince William County Democratic Party; and WHEREAS, as a strong supporter of Project Mend-A-House, a program that assists elderly, disabled, and low income residents with affordable housing in Prince William County and Manassas, Kevin English used his knowledge of the local real estate market to locate properties that could be rehabilitated into affordable housing for families; and WHEREAS, a board member and an active participant in various fundraising efforts of Project Mend-A-House, Kevin English helped to start an annual golf tournament whose success is due in large part to his behind-the-scenes organization and work with players and sponsors; and WHEREAS, Kevin English was active in local government; he was a member of the Dumfries Town Council for two four-year terms, from 1990 to 1994 and from 1996 to 2000; he also was a candidate for mayor of Dumfries in 2002; and WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant in Prince William County, Kevin English cared deeply about the area's most vulnerable residents; in his professional life and in his public service, he was a voice for many people in the Dumfries area; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired public servant and outstanding Virginian, Kevin Timothy English; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kevin Timothy English as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
