HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 340
Commending the Hermitage at Cedarfield.

WHEREAS, for 20 years, the Hermitage at Cedarfield, an outstanding retirement community in Henrico County, has provided a wide range of senior living options, services, and amenities to area residents aged 62 and up; and

WHEREAS, built on 90 acres of land near Deep Run Park, Cedarfield officially opened on September 3, 1996; it was the sixth community developed by Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc., and was the organization's largest endeavor at the time; and

WHEREAS, as a continuing care retirement community, Cedarfield also provides comprehensive health services, including assisted living options and on-site nursing care and memory support; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Cedarfield are active volunteers in the Richmond community, offering their wisdom and leadership to many civic and service organizations; the Cedarfield Team raises thousands of dollars each year for the Richmond Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association through its loyal participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer's; and

WHEREAS, Cedarfield is committed to a person-centered philosophy in health care and assisted living, ensuring that residents are treated as individuals who have the right to participate in and make decisions about their health care options; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, a team of Cedarfield residents and staff, Virginia United Methodist Housing management and board members, architects, and other stakeholders developed a master plan for expansion and renovation of Cedarfield, securing a bright future for the entire community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hermitage at Cedarfield for its service to older Virginians on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Hermitage at Cedarfield as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its work to ensure that seniors remain active members of the Richmond community.
