RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, a majority of the members elected to each house agreeing, That the following amendment to the Constitution of Virginia be, and the same hereby is, proposed and referred to the General Assembly at its first regular session held after the next general election of members of the House of Delegates for its concurrence in conformity with the provisions of Section 1 of Article XII of the Constitution of Virginia, namely:

Amend Section 1 of Article V of the Constitution of Virginia as follows:

ARTICLE V
EXECUTIVE

Section 1. Executive power; Governor's term of office.

The chief executive power of the Commonwealth shall be vested in a Governor. He shall hold office for a term commencing upon his inauguration on the Saturday after the second Wednesday in January, next succeeding his election, and ending in the fourth year thereafter immediately upon the inauguration of his successor. He shall be ineligible to the same office for the term next succeeding that for which he was elected, and to any other office during his term of service. No person shall be elected to the office of Governor more than twice, and no person who has held the office of Governor, or acted as Governor, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected Governor, shall be elected to the office of Governor more than once. The authorization to serve two terms in succession shall be applicable to persons first elected to serve as Governor in 2013 and thereafter.
