WHEREAS, Master Sergeant John G. King, USAF, Ret., an honorable veteran and esteemed educator at Warhill High School in Williamsburg was named the Veterans of Foreign Wars' 2023–2024 Virginia High School Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, prior to becoming a teacher, John King served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Air Force for 22 years before retiring in 2010; and
WHEREAS, John King embarked upon a second career as an educator with Williamsburg–James City County Public Schools and for the past 13 years has worked tirelessly to ensure his students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, John King teaches social studies, including the courses Advanced Placement Human Geography and Advanced American Studies, at Warhill High School, which also presented him with Teacher of the Year honors in 2023; and
WHEREAS, as a veteran, John King has played an outsized role in supporting military-connected students and families at Warhill High School, spearheading the institution's efforts to achieve its Purple Star School designation from the Department of Education in 2022; and
WHEREAS, by fostering a learning environment in which all may grow and thrive, John King has primed his students to lead accomplished and fulfilling lives, earning the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Master Sergeant John G. King, USAF, Ret., for being named the Veterans of Foreign Wars' 2023–2024 Virginia High School Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Master Sergeant John G. King, USAF, Ret., as an expression of the General Assembly's high regard for his legacy of service and commitment to educating the Commonwealth's youth.
