| WHEREAS, The Winnsboro News is being presented with a Texas | ||
| Treasure Business Award by the Texas Historical Commission on | ||
| June 1, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This award program recognizes businesses that | ||
| have provided employment opportunities and supported the state's | ||
| economy for at least 50 years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, the weekly newspaper adopted its | ||
| present name under the ownership of Grayford Jones in 1951, and | ||
| since 1985, the publication has benefited from the vision and | ||
| leadership of its current proprietors, Tom and Karen Pendergast; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of more than a century, the | ||
| Winnsboro News has served as a vital source of information to | ||
| residents of Wood and Franklin Counties, and it is indeed | ||
| deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby congratulate the Winnsboro News on its | ||
| receipt of a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas | ||
| Historical Commission and extend to its owners and staff sincere | ||
| best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the | ||
| publication as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
