| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her exemplary career in | ||
| public service and her many contributions to her community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Kingsville, Texas, Susie Gonzalez | ||
| began a career in law enforcement as a jailer with the Kleberg | ||
| County Sheriff's Department in 1979; she went on to serve as a | ||
| dispatcher supervisor and a patrol deputy; she became a Kleberg | ||
| County deputy constable in 1989; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Susie joined the Kenedy County Sheriff's | ||
| Department in 1991, and she served as a deputy there for six | ||
| years; she then became the first Hispanic woman to be elected to | ||
| the position of Kenedy County Tax Assessor-Collector, and she | ||
| served with distinction from 1997 until her retirement on January | ||
| 1, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A tireless steward of the community, Susie played | ||
| an integral role in organizing the Food Bank of Kenedy County, and | ||
| she volunteered for the organization for 10 years; she also | ||
| volunteered as a caseworker for the Federal Emergency Management | ||
| Agency when natural disasters struck Kleberg and Kenedy Counties; | ||
| she has served on a number of civic boards and committees, and she | ||
| is a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in | ||
| Sarita, Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Susie Gonzalez exemplified | ||
| the highest ideals of law enforcement service and civic | ||
| leadership; she is beloved by many, and she is indeed deserving of | ||
| recognition for her years of distinguished public service; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her | ||
| tireless work on behalf of the citizens of Kleberg and Kenedy | ||
| Counties and extend to her best wishes in all her future endeavors; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
