WHEREAS, Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson has | ||
demonstrated exceptional leadership and diligence in investigating | ||
allegations of voter fraud, and she is indeed deserving of | ||
special recognition; and | ||
WHEREAS, In response to reports of widespread irregularities | ||
involving mail-in ballots in two Dallas County elections in 2017, | ||
District Attorney Johnson and her team of prosecutors have worked | ||
tirelessly to investigate the claims; moreover, her office has | ||
formed a partnership with the Texas Attorney General's Office to | ||
thoroughly assess the evidence; and | ||
WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School | ||
of Law at Texas Southern University, Faith Johnson went to work | ||
for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in 1982 and | ||
rose through the ranks to become chief felony prosecutor; she | ||
subsequently earned the distinction of becoming the first African | ||
American woman elected to serve as a district criminal judge in | ||
the state, and following 17 years on the bench, she worked for a | ||
nonprofit law firm for two years before establishing her own | ||
private practice, Faith Johnson & Associates, in Irving in 2009; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, That same year, she was appointed by Governor Rick | ||
Perry as a member of the Texas Public Safety Commission, a role in | ||
which she helped oversee homeland security, border patrol, and | ||
terrorism prevention; in 2016, she was appointed by Governor Greg | ||
Abbott to serve out an unexpired term as Dallas County district | ||
attorney, becoming the first African American woman to hold that | ||
office; and | ||
WHEREAS, A true pioneer in her profession, Faith Johnson has | ||
proven herself a top legal mind and a dedicated public servant, | ||
and her work in safeguarding the democratic process is greatly | ||
benefiting her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dallas County | ||
District Attorney Faith Johnson on her outstanding efforts in | ||
investigating voter fraud and extend to her sincere best wishes | ||
for continued success with her important work; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
Ms. Johnson as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
