SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Brownsville in celebrating January 29, 2013,
  as Brownsville Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, The Brownsville delegation visiting the Capitol
  is led by the United Brownsville Partnership and includes
  representatives from the City of Brownsville, the Brownsville
  Navigation District, The University of Texas at Brownsville, the
  Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, Texas Southmost
  College, the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, the
  Brownsville Independent School District, the Brownsville Public
  Utilities Board, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, the
  Brownsville Economic Development Council, the Brownsville
  Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Brownsville South Padre
  Island International Airport, Cameron County, the United Way of
  Southern Cameron County, and Workforce Solutions Cameron; and
         WHEREAS, The largest city in the lower Rio Grande Valley
  and the southernmost city in the state, Brownsville is the seat
  of Cameron County; chartered in 1848, it was incorporated by an
  act of the Third Legislature of the State of Texas in 1850 and is
  named in honor of Major Jacob Brown, who died in action in the
  lead-in to the Mexican War; and
         WHEREAS, Brownsville is a center for the cultural heritage
  of the United States and Mexico; hundreds of years of history and
  tradition are celebrated throughout each year at a wide array of
  festivals and events that bring together the two cultures in a
  spirit of cooperation and mutual support; and
         WHEREAS, The Brownsville community developed the Imagine
  Brownsville Comprehensive Plan in order to implement a bold
  vision for the future that builds on the strengths of the people
  and the region's unique economic assets; it is truly fitting that
  this vibrant community be recognized with a special day at the
  Capitol; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Brownsville on their
  many contributions to the state and extend to the city's
  delegation best wishes for a memorable Brownsville Day at the
  State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the delegation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
